ADOPTED! Chip – 5 Year Old Blue Merle Australian Shepherd Male in Kentucky

I’ve been adopted!
CHIPPITY DOO DAH!!!!!

Say hello to Chip!  Chip is a gorgeous 5 year old powder blue merle Australian Shepherd boy with a touch of blue in his right eye!  What a beautiful guy!  Chip’s foster mom says that he is as sweet as they come. He’s a happy, cheerful dog who will pick up anybody’s mood!

Chip is a very sweet dog, soft, not a difficult or high energy dog. He gets along well with the other three dogs in our house, including our somewhat difficult Aussie boy. Chip was learning to play with toys before his second heartworm shot and we will pick that up again when he can. He likes children. He is quite affectionate and would really like to be a lap dog.

Chip is housebroken and crate trained! He gets along with the other dogs in his foster home and loves having friends to play with. He’s got a fun, bouncy Aussie gait and he’s very light on his feet. Chip enjoys walks and is very good on the leash!

He has been gated off in kind of a hallway/foyer type area when he is left unsupervised. He knows that’s his place during the day and rushes in there in the morning for his treat. So he learns very quickly. He has not been destructive in any way at all. After work, he is loose in the house with all of us and enjoys being a part of the family.

Chip came in HW+ and was treated for it. He’s completed treatment and is ready to go! On April 1 2013, Chip must be heartworm tested again to be sure the treatment was fully successful. Like all of our dogs, Chip must be kept on monthly heartworm preventatives!

Chip is fostered in Henderson Kentucky. If you are interested in making this beautiful blue merle Australian Shepherd a member of your family, we invite you to complete our ADOPTION APPLICATION Reference ASRM 0108 Chip!

  1. I wondered how much does Chip weigh? He looks fairly large. I have a 18 mos old Wheaton that loves to play with other dogs. Your comments that Chip loves having friends to play with interests me. I wouldn’t mind waiting until Sept to get another dog. Will you be bringing Chip to Joliet this weekend for the event there?

  2. Chip is a regular size aussie and weighs around 50 lbs. He is in KY and will not be attending Aussiepalooza. He is undergoing HW treatment and needs to be quiet until he is finished with treatment.

  3. We have an almost 1 year old Aussie who would really benefit from a playmate. Would Chip enjoy a VERY ENERGETIC younger brother? We have frequent playdates with other dogs, and some of them can’t seem to keep up with our dog. He is ready to play and they are panting and laying under the deck. We have filled out an adoption application and interested in learning more.

  4. Thank you for your interest in Chip. Chip likes other dogs but needs to be quiet while he is undergoing his heartworm treatment. He will be done with that treatment at the end of September. When he is finished he will be adoptable. We really cannot test his energy level until the vet says he has completely recovered.

  5. Hello, I had to put my Aussie to sleep, his name was Buddy, he was 14 years old. I have another adopted aussie, Cowboy, adopted 1 year ago, he is very quiet and timid, but has come along way, he looks at me now and knows i won’t hurt him. We have a quiet little farm, I live alone w/ cowboy and 4 house cats. Am interested in Chip, and am healing from losing buddy. Would consider helping w/ chips Heart worm treatment if I could adopt. Removed for privacy purposes XXX-XXX-XXXX

  6. Hi Mary Anne,
I have already filled out the adoption form and was approved last year, and probably am still approved. I have tried to get a hold of David Thurman but he hasn’t answered my e-mails. Could you check to see if my appl renmains active, now sure how to do it myself. My 8 year-old aussie is quiet, I think he was abused, has taked me a long time to get him to even look at me and come to me, but he is better. He doesn’t play but likes to run around the pine tree and go to the barn to feed the horses w/ me. He needs a freind, and it is very quiet at my farm, only me and when my daughter comes home, she is in Vet school at Purdue and I am a veterinary tech. Please call 317-363-5398

  7. Thank you for interest in Chip. After about 6 months, we need approved adopters to fill out a new application if they want to adopt then. We do that because people may have different residences, different pets, more kids etc. When you reapplu please note that you have adopted your aussie in the past from us. It helps us to get things updated and get the best dog match. Thanks again.

  8. this dog looks like he loves the outdoor like my dog.I live in the country and have five acre”s and some of the five acre’s are fenced in for my dog to run for she loves to run around and play she loves other dogs and loves attention. He looks like he would love to come and play with her. I have no children for mine are grown but in the house is a lazy cat who is declawed. Garfield you would think.

  9. I have three aussies currently, I have one that stays outside with our 12+ yr old lab, they are our watch dogs! The lab is slowly failing and I know that when she does my standard Aussie will be very lonely. My other dogs are very friendly and take to strangers very well. I am looking for a companion for my standard aussie for when my lab passes. Do you think chip would be a candidate? We have 10 acres, on a very rural road, we have horses, dogs, cats, and ducks. Please contact me as I am interested in chip!

  10. Thank you for your interest in Chip. All of our aussie have been trained to be indoor pets. Chip has just completed a long difficult treatment for Heartworm infection because he was outside and not protected. We believe he would be better living inside.

  11. We have a 3 year old mini female who was a puppy mill rescue. Sweet, mellow, doesn’t bark , no concept of toys and startles easily. We are thinking she needs another dog in the house to “help” her be a dog! We have a cat and 4 kids (5,8,8,10). The twins have Autism and can be loud. The loud kids don’t bother her as much as a car door slamming .

  13. Sometimes a well adjusted dog can help another dog with their behavior problems. I have also found professional training class can help a dog get used to other dogs and mimic their behavior. You need to help your girl get over her fears. This can be a slow process and a professional trainer can guide you. Just having a normal dog in the house is probably not enough to get her over her past. She needs focused help to overcome her fears, without that help she may just avoid the other dog.

  14. We submitted an application for Chip a couple of days ago, and understand there is a processing time before we will hear anything. I am just wondering if there are many applications? Like we have maybe very little chance, just because of lots of interest in him? We will try to be patient :-)

  15. Thank you for your interest in Chip. He is still available. When you submit an application it takes several days to process because we are 100% volunteer. You should be hearing from a volunteer soon.
