Meet Miss Olivia. She is a deaf (double merle) Australian Shepherd/Jack Russell mix, so she is a bit petite (about 30 lbs). Olivia is approximately 3 years old. She has a mysterious background, and of course a proper lady never tells her age.
Olivia is adventurous, loves long walks, chasing balls, playing with other
dogs and then settling down with you for a long nap. When you are hanging out or working at your desk, lying on your feet is her favorite place, unless you are willing to share your lap- and then she jumps right on and cuddles away. She enjoys chasing the occasional squirrel or cat, although we aren’t sure she would do anything but lick it if she caught one! When you are hanging out or working at your desk, lying on your feet is her favorite place, unless you are willing to share your lap- and then she jumps right on and cuddles away. She is a Velcro dog inside, but needs a fenced yard as she likes to take off on adventures throughout her neighborhood if given a chance.
Olivia has participated in the Illinois State rescue dog training project, and got
straight A’s in obedience and tricks. Even though she is deaf, Olivia can sit, down, stay, walk on a leash, shake hands, give high 5’s, and roll over. You just need to learn the hand signs and she will gladly show you all her tricks. She is one smart Aussie!
Olivia has not been exposed to small children, but gets along very well with preteens, teenagers, and adults. She likes to be the top dog, and if going to a multi-dog house needs a canine brother or sister who will be patient with and tolerant of her wanting to be #1. Olivia is fostered in a multi-Aussie family in Bloomington, Illinois so she can certainly learn to live with canine and feline siblings.
Olivia is patiently awaiting her forever home. If you are looking a wonderful, smaller Aussie who is well trained AND are willing to learn about living with a deaf dog, then Olivia could be for you.
Olivia requires an experienced dog owner. If she sounds like a good fit for your home, please fill out the ADOPTION APPLICATION here and reference ASRM 0117 Olivia.

Must the adopter be from IL? Also, would she be better in a household with another dog, or would she be ok with just one very attentive, loving owner? -JD
Thank you for your interest in Olivia. As long as a potential approved adopter lives in IL, MO, MN, WI, or KY or some surrounding areas, the potential adopter can adopt Olivia. The adopter must travel to Olivia’s foster home to meet her. Our deaf aussies can be adopted into a home with other dogs but it is not required.
